Summer To Read List
Friday the 8th (yesterday) was my last day with students for the 2017-2018 school year...

I broke out of the place like the building was on fire! I have 3 teacher workdays next week before my OFFICIAL summer break begins, but I am already in summer mode - which means reading all of the books! Since I am in a year-long program my summer is pretty short - June 13th-July 9th, so my summer to-read list is fairly small. If you read my last blog post you already know I have kicked off my summer reading with the June read for edureadingclub, How I Resist: Activism and Hope for a New Generation edited by Maureen Johnson. It is fabulous! Below is a list of the rest of my summer "tbr" list:
- Get up or Give Up by Michael Bonner - I actually met Mr. Bonner when I got this book. He was the keynote speaker at a grant award ceremony I attended. His story is amazing, and he has been featured on the Ellen Show! I cannot wait to read this book and feel inspired to be a teacher again!
- 1984 by George Orwell - I have a confession to make...I have never read the book...I know, I know: I'm a horrible person. I am rectifying the situation by reading it this summer! I see a lot of parallels from the plot of the book to the current climate of our country. I also was able to procure enough copies of this book (thanks to my dad) so that I can have my Civics and Economics students read it! I am so excited to incorporate this novel into that class,
- Midnight Texas series by Charlaine Harris - I love Charlaine Harris. I read the entire Southern Vampire series aka the True Blood series. She is a great author. I really don't know anything about the plot, I just know that Mrs. Harris wrote the books - that was enough for me! I picked them up at our local library book sale for only $1 each! Plus they were hardback! Also - I literally did not know until I began writing this blog, but apparently the books are now a tv show.
- The Magicians series by Lev Grossman - I discovered these books through falling in love with the tv show. I've heard the books are awesome, so I am very excited to read them. I love all things fantasy and magic, so these books will probably be my favorite read of the summer.
That's it! I know it's only 8 books - but for 4 weeks (8 days of which I will be touring the Dominican Republic) it is probably going to be just enough. What are you guys reading this summer? Comment below, or hit me up on Instagram to let me know!

I hope my summer looks like this!
